iPhone 3G not instilling fear in Apple’s music foes

LOS ANGELES–Apple’s upgraded iPhone didn’t inspire fear in at least two of the biggest subscription music sites–even before they learned that the device wouldn’t let people download music via the new 3G network.

“I’m not trembling,” Anu Kirk, Rhapsody’s director of product management, said Monday at the iHollywood conference. “I’m sure they are going to sell a lot of second-generation iPhones. It’s a fantastic product but they can’t take over the United States with just one carrier.”

Adobe merging desktop and web with Acrobat 9 and Acrobat.com

We made a few announcements today around our Acrobat 9 product and a new portal called Acrobat.com which is aimed at helping people work better. I think it’s significant because as a company we’ve released web-based applications like Photoshop Express and Buzzword but Acrobat.com represents something of a combination between the old world of Acrobat and PDF and the new world of Flash, Audio/Video, and real time communication. I also think it’s the best example of Adobe leveraging it’s own platform to deliver value to users.

Adobe launched Monday a beta version of Acrobat.com an online office suite that allows you to create word processing documents, share files, convert PDFs and hold Web conferences. For more information, read Larry Dignan’s blog.

Adobe has tied together its online office suite with the beta of Acrobat.com and the user interface is the big differentiator. What remains to be seen is whether online office users care about aesthetics.

Flash attack may as well have been zero-day

It has almost been a week since the Adobe Flash zero-day attack false alarm.  Since then, a number of people have called Symantec out as being irresponsible for crying wolf and announcing the raising the ThreatCon without fully researching the vulnerability (Full disclosure: Based on that information, I wrote here that the exploit took advantage of a zero-day vulnerability before I had tested it on a patched system — I was more interested in reversing the malware payload at the time).

We must be careful, however, to make sure that the real lesson isn’t lost while we all breathe a collective sigh of relief: the vulnerability may as well have been zero-day.
